NEPHROTIC SYNDROME SECONDARY TO RENAL VEIN THROMBOSIS

THE VALUE OF INFERIOR VENA CAVOGRAPHY

MURRAY L. JANOWER M.D.1

1 Assistant in Radiology, Harvard Medical School; Assistant in Radiology, Department of Radiology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts

A case of nephrotic syndrome secondary to renal vein thrombosis is reported.

Three techniques of inferior vena cavography—direct femoral vein puncture, catheterization of the vena cava from above, and bilateral intertrochanteric injections—are described.

It is emphasized that an alert radiologist with a minimum of special skills or equipment can play a crucial role in clarifying the etiology of the nephrotic syndrome in selected cases.
