URINARY TRACT ANOMALIES IN GONADAL DYSGENESIS

WELLINGTON HUNG M.D.1 and JOSEPH M. LOPRESTI M.D.1

1 From the Departments of Endocrinology and Radiology, Children's Hospital of the District of Columbia, the Departments of Pediatrics, George Washington and Georgetown University Schools of Medicine, and the Department of Radiology, George Washington University, Washington, D. C.

1. Anomalies associated with gonadal dysgenesis as seen on intravenous urograms are more frequent than hitherto reported. In this study of 9 patients, it was found that 8 (88.8 per cent) had some form of urinary tract abnormality.

2. Malrotation of the kidneys was found to be the most frequent renal anomaly in gonadal dysgenesis.

3. Anomalous differentiation of the kidneys and upper urinary tract is sufficiently common in gonadal dysgenesis to warrant routine intravenous urography.
