AMYLOID HEART DISEASE

Undiagnosed heart disease in cardiac failure is a difficult diagnostic problem. Angiocardiography will usually establish the presence of pericardial fluid.13

In a patient with undiagnosed heart disease and pericardial effusion, most often secondary to failure, amyloid heart disease should be suggested so that appropriate staining of the biopsy material is performed.

Open pericardial tap and pericardial, atrial, or myocardial biopsy can lead to the diagnosis of amyloid disease.
