Congenital absence of the celiac axis trunk, diagnosed preoperatively and surgically confirmed, is reported in a 58 year old woman with apparently unrelated symptoms. Certain characteristics in the appearance of collateral channels following arteriosclerotic obstructive disease are contrasted with the appearance of alternate pathways developing in response to congenital stenosis, coarctation or atresia.
