1 From the Department of Radiology, U. S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, California
A case of Lindau's disease consisting of cerebellar hemangioblastoma and polycystic kidneys in association with polycythemia is presented. Two interesting cases of Lindau's disease have been reported previously in the American radiologic literature, but polycythemia was not associated with those cases. The production of an erythrocyte stimulating factor (ESF, erythropoietin) by kidney tumors, various kidney diseases, cerebellar hemangioblastomas and possibly other tumors is discussed. The role of the radiologist is obviously important in making the diagnosis of Lindau's disease with the possible association of polycythemia.
