Pantopaque myelography will in most cases give more information with greater facility than will air myelography. However, the diagnosis of atrophy of the spinal cord can seldom be made by pantopaque myelography. Patients with atrophy of the spinal cord secondary to cervical spondylosis do not demonstrate significant improvement following surgery; therefore, air myelography is a very important adjunct to the preoperative evaluation of patients with cervical spondylosis.
