RADIOISOTOPIC SCANNING AS AN AID IN PLANNING RADIATION THERAPY

In the past, we had attempted to use intravenous pyelography for demonstrating the position of the kidney in this situation. This was not too satisfactory, both because it was difficult to differentiate liver from renal shadows and because of the effect of magnification on the 40 inch intravenous pyelogram compared to portal roentgenograms. It appears that the relatively simple use of radioisotopes to outline these organs in relation to the volume under radiation therapy, without the complication of magnification and with the sharp demarcation possible, would make this a worthwhile procedure.
