INADVERTENT GASTROILEOSTOMY

ISADORE KATZ M.D.1 and FRANK L. KARP M.D.2

1 From the Department of Radiology of The State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, the Kings County Hospital Center and the Veterans Administration Hospital, Brooklyn, N. Y.
2 From the Medical Service of the Maimonides Hospital, Coney Island Division

Gastroileostomy as an inadvertent surgical error is probably more frequent than published reports indicate.

A review of the literature suggests that the lesion may easily be overlooked in patients who have persistent or new symptoms following operations involving the stomach.

The clinical symptoms supported by roentgen study permit unequivocal diagnosis of this lesion.

Six previously unreported cases illustrating the roentgen characteristics, clini cal features and laboratory findings are described.
